The Truth About Christmas

Merry Christmas

Family reunions, holidays, Christmas trees, good food, and lots of presents. ― Is this all Christmas is about?

Christmas should be a time when the all the people in world remembers the coming of Jesus Christ to this earth.

The Birth of Jesus

Centuries ago, prophets predicted that Jesus Christ would be born of a virgin in Bethlehem, a small town in Israel. The Bible says, “But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.” (Micah 5:2)

In reads in another place, “The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.” (Isaiah 2:1-3)

Why was Jesus Born?

This child named Jesus is God’s Son, sent by God Himself to die in the place of men, women, boys, and girls so that they might be saved from their sin. John 3:16 tells us, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

In dying on the cross, Jesus took on Himself, the punishment for sin that sinners deserve. 1 Peter 3:18 puts it this way, “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:”

After His death, Jesus was buried in a tomb in Jerusalem. However, three days God raised Him from the dead, confirming that the price for sin has been paid.  It was told was to visitors at the place of His grave, “Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.” (Mark 16:6) Later, “opened he (Jesus) their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:” (Luke 24:45-46)

Following His death and resurrection, Jesus appeared to many people, and then ascended into heaven.

“He was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.” (1 Corinthians 15:5-6)

Later, “while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:9-11)

His Second Coming

Just as the prophets predicted that He would come into the world, Jesus Himself said that He would come again to Earth.

And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. Matthew 24:30

His first coming was to pay the price for sin. His second coming is to judge the world. Those who are saved from their sins by the Lord Jesus Christ look forward to this day. They know that when they stand before Him they will be found “not guilty.”

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. Hebrews 9:27-28

Are you ready for that day?
Will you be acquitted?

If you have not done so, will you please turn to God?

Recognize what Jesus Christ did for you on the cross, ask God to save you, and put your complete trust in Him today.
